Michelin’s decade of innovation and success in motorsport

In the course of the past 10 years, Michelin’s increasingly sophisticated, energy-efficient, consistent and, now, connected tyres collected more than 300 world-class victories in disciplines as varied as MotoGP, endurance racing, rallying and Formula E.

Michelin’s first Formula 1 world titles

In 1979, Michelin demonstrated the superiority of its radial tyre technology by claiming the first of its titles in the Formula 1 World Championship. Forty years on, the French firm continues to see motorsport as a means to innovate and take its technologies forward, especially in competitions that place the accent on sustainable mobility and lasting performance.

Rally dos Sertoes: Coma wins and increases his leadership

Winner of Rally dos Sertoes, fifth and penultimate round of the FIM Cross Country Rallies World Championship, Marc Coma (KTM Michelin) beats in Brazil Paolo Gonçalves (Honda Michelin) and increases his leadership in the series before the final round in Morocco.

With seven stages and more than 1500km of special stages, the Rally dos Sertoes was once more a duel between Marc Coma and Paolo Gonçalves, as Joan Barreda (Honda Michelin) didn’t enter the event.

Gonçalves was the first leader as the Portuguese won the short prologue, but after his win in the first stage Marc Coma took the lead and never let this position even if Gonçalves put a lot of pressure on the KTM rider.

Winner of four stages – fifth if we include the prologue – Gonçalves missed the final win by only three minutes and twenty three seconds, as Coma won three stages and finished all the others on the podium. It’s in the first part of the Marathon stage that Coma made a decisive gap with his rival, who lost five minutes after taking a wrong track in the last part of the stage.

Winner of the last two stages Gonçalves will not renew his success of last year, and is now ten points behind Coma in the standings of the series before the last round in Morocco. The third position in Brazil was for local rider Jean Azevedo (Honda), who finished five stages on the podium.
