Shanghai track walk

There was no track action today in Shanghai, but the drivers were able to get a feel for the circuit thanks to a two-hour period this afternoon (Thursday) when they could walk (or run!) the 5.451km loop. We talked to Porsche driver Patrick Pilet after his two laps as a pedestrian…

WEC China: surprise success for Audi/Michelin

Audi overturned a seemingly hopeless situation to seize a dramatic win today in China. After being dominated for most of the 6 Hours of Shanghai, its N°1 car (Lotterer/Tréluyer/Fässler) pounced on a chink in Toyota’s armour to clinch victory by a margin of 15 seconds. The N°7 Toyota (Wurz/Lapierre) had to make do with runner-up honours, while Kristensen/Duval/McNish (N°2 Audi, 3rd, +1 lap) added to the German team’s celebrations by securing the 2013 FIA WEC Drivers’ crown. The LMP2 class was won by G-Drive Racing’s Rusinov/Martin/Conway (N°26 Oreca03-Nissan).

24 Hours of Spa-Francorchamps: victory for Mercedes-Benz

After winning this year’s 12 Hours of Bathurst, 24 Hours of Dubai and Nürburgring 24 Hours, Mercedes-Benz continued its successful run in endurance racing with the SLS AMG GT3. Victory at Spa went to the N°84 Mercedes of Schneider/Buhk/Götz (HTP Motorsport), ahead of the N°150 Manthey Racing Porsche (Lieb/Lietz/Pilet) and the N°2 Audi (Stippler/Mies/Lotterer).

LMGTE: Porsche domination

To celebrate its return as a works entry at Le Mans, not to mention the 50th anniversary of the 911, Porsche came away with a one-two finish in the LMGTE Pro class, plus victory in LMGTE Am with its partner Michelin.

Audi first again… Toyota second again…

The Le Mans 24 Hours was won for the 12th time since 2000 by Audi. Meanwhile, Toyota had to settle for second spot for the fourth time since 1992. It was also Tom Kristensen’s ninth victory which, like his first, in 1997, was marked by a fatal accident. For Michelin, this year’s competition harvested a 16th straight win in La Sarthe since 1998.

90 years of… tyres

What is the common denominator between the steel wire-rim wheels of the 1923 Le Mans-winning Chenard&Walcker and the magnesium wheels used by today’s Audi R18 e-tron quattro? Answer: their Michelin tyres! Le Mans has been an invaluable proving ground for the French firm for 90 years

The drivers for the 90th anniversary Le Mans

The Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO) has released the names of 165 of the 168 drivers who will take part in the 2013 Le Mans 24 Hours in one month’s time.

WEC Spa (race): Ferrari on form in Belgium

The LMGTE Pro class produced yet another thrilling contest in Belgium. Ferrari’s speed ultimately paid dividends, however, since the win went to the N°51 AF Corse Ferrari of Bruni/Fisichella. The top three cars in the class were covered by just 10 seconds! There was less suspense in LMGTE Am which saw the N°81 Ferrari/Michelin of Potolicchio/Aguas/Malucelli lead practically from flag to flag.

WEC Spa (race, LMP): a 1-2-3 triumph for Audi

Audi/Michelin followed up its one-two finish at Silverstone with another assertive display at the FIA WEC’s second round at Spa. The brand’s one-two-three domination was led by the N°1 car of Lotterer/Tréluyer/Fässler. The 2013-specification Toyota (N°7) spent some time in the lead before being eliminated by a problem with its energy recovery system. The LMP2 class was won by the N°49 Oreca03-Nissan (Perez Companc/Minassian/Kaffer), the only car in the category competing on Michelin rubber.

6 Hours of Spa (WEC): 35 cars

The second round of the 2013 FIA World Endurance Championship will take place at Spa-Francorchamps (May 3-4) where 35 cars and 105 drivers are expected.
